The Purvis family owned and operated the fishing station at Quebec Harbour, Michipicoten Island from 1934 to 1959. Mort is the grandson of James Purvis, and son of Ivan Purvis, who jointly ran the Purvis fishery. Mort and his wife Marie still own property and a summer home on Michipicoten Island.
